Biodiverzitet faune podzemlja visokih planina Kantona Sarajevo/Biodiversity of the underground fauna of the high mountains of the Sarajevo Canton

Biodiversity of the underground fauna of the high mountains of the Sarajevo Canton

Biodiversity of cave fauna in the Sarajevo Canton is known only on the basis of the older studies (late 19. and early 20. Century through the works of Apfelbeck and several European researchers). These results are confirmed by more recent research. However, the biodiversity of the underground is much larger than is shown in the caves. Giachino, P.M. and Vailati D. showed that in their research in MSS layer on the territory of Greece. This project intends, on a similar methodology (trap layer MSS), to explore the underground biodiversity of the high mountains Bjelasnica, Treskavica, Visocica, Jahorina, Trebević and Bukovika. Activities should take place through a field selection, preparation of traps, trapping, examination and processing of the results. It is expected the increased number of new and endemic species of the underground fauna in the Canton Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The project is financially supported by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Environmental Protection of Canton Sarajevo.
